Taos sits between a mountain range and the Rio Grande, and the scenery is spectacular. It's probably the highest-altitude city we've visited to-date, but since it was a gradual climb over several days from Arizona, we didn't suffer any ill effects. The town itself is spread out over several miles, and is filled with galleries and restaurants exhibiting works from the local artist colony.
